Wichita, KS – KBX Logistics LLC and Georgia-Pacific, two companies of Koch Industries, Inc., today each received SmartWay® Excellence Awards from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for being leaders in freight supply chain environmental performance and energy efficiency. The EPA presented the award to KBX for its superior performance in logistics while Georgia-Pacific won the award for its excellence in shipping.

“We’re honored to receive the SmartWay Excellence award from the EPA, which recognizes leaders like KBX Logistics in the freight and supply chain industries for outstanding environmental stewardship in their operations,” said Paul Snider, President of KBX Logistics. “We continually strive to innovate and look for the most effective and environmentally friendly solutions for our customers and society, and this award is a testament to the hard work our employees and contractors are doing and the value they’re creating.”

KBX’s sustainability goals each year include continuing to meet and striving to exceed the standards of the EPA’s SmartWay program, growing backhaul to reduce deadhead and emissions, increasing intermodal shipping, experimenting and innovating to reduce its carbon footprint, and reducing driver dwell time at loading and unloading locations.

KBX and Georgia-Pacific were two of 17 logistics and shipper companies to receive this distinction, representing the best environmental performers of SmartWay’s 3,700 Partners. The Excellence Awardees were honored at the 2019 American Trucking Association’s Management Conference and Exhibition in San Diego, California on October 7th, 2019.

“This year, the U.S. EPA’s SmartWay Transport Partnership is recognizing 13 shippers and four third party logistics providers as recipients of the 2019 SmartWay Excellence Award,” said EPA’s Director of the Office of Transportation and Air Quality, Sarah Dunham. “These awardees are the top two percent of environmental performers among all of our SmartWay Partners. They are redefining best practices for freight transport by reducing fuel costs and improving the public health of the communities they serve.”
